4 Jan :Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal has said the state police needed modern equipment to deal with any terrorist attack and demanded a financial grant of Rs 300 crore from the Centre in this regard.
With Punjab being a border state, it was imperative to arm its police force with modern weapons to meet any challenge posed by terrorism, he told reporters at Sangrur on Sunday.
Badal said he would demand a financial assistance of Rs 300 crore from the Centre in this regard at a meeting of Chief Ministers in New Delhi on 6th January.
Launching an attack on the UPA government at the Centre, he alleged it was handing out step-motherly treatment to his government.Favouring more powers for the state, Badal said this was necessary to address problems like poverty and unemployment afflicting Punjab.
