CHANDIGARH – April 10, 2008: In the continuation of tree plantation drive, the Panjab University today planted 140 Bougainvillea plants in the new Bougainvillea garden being developed in the Sector 25 Campus. In addition, 40 Mango trees at the vacant space opposite newly built C-type and B-type quarters in the residential area of South Campus, Sector 25. Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. V.K. Anand, Libarian, Prof. Naval Kishore, D.S.W., Dr. A.D. Ahluwalia, Dr. Tankeshwar Kumar, Director, Computer Science & Applications and residents of this area were present on the occasion. The Vice-Chancellor made an announcement that Sector 25 Campus will be developed as a Model Sector which will have in addition to the Garden, Mini Rose Garden. Already 1000 saplings have been planted during the last week of March at P.U. Campus. Cleanliness drive has already been launched in the South Campus of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor had issued an appeal asking every one to come forward and take part in the drive of tree plantation to save the city from environment degradation. The Vice-Chancellor made an appeal to campus residents to plant at least two saplings each in their respective homes and nurture those. He also appealed to the gathering to ensure that they would do the same in or around their respective habitats, write the name of the plant and nurture the same.
