Keeping up with his mission to sensitize students, faculty and staff on a `healthy way to life’ and make PU Campus `green and clean’, the Vice Chancellor Professor RC Sobti today (July 10, 2011) inaugurated the first of the `weekly walk or run’ event. Starting from Dewan Anand Kumar Hall, the participants moved around the campus in the event which finished at the Vice Chancellor’s office. More than 100 students, faculty and staff participated in the event. And the winners in various categories were honored with token mementos. Already in the campus the plantation and cleanliness drive of `July’ is on. However, unlike previous years, this time the Vice Chancellor has made no formal announcement on the start of it. In turn, on July 1 he resumed the mission virtually alone and gradually the faculty and the staff started joining him in numbers, and more and more environment conscious people are expected to join the mission in due course. An hour activity which daily starts at 6 am will culminate on July 31 with a cycle rally.
Over the years more than 30,000 plantlets having medicinal and ornamental flavor have been planted at the various corners of the north and south campuses of the Panjab University. Surely, the aesthetic and environmental impact of the same will be perceptible after four to five years, when campus will start flowering with the fragrance of `champa’ and `chmeli’, and the swings of `Arjuns’ and `Ashokas’.
