Manoj Godara, Chandigarh, April 22, 2011: A dangerous trend has been noticed by Panjab University authorities – a few days prior to an examination, fabricated SMSs are circulated stating:
· Following two/questions are from a particular paper of a subject
· Question paper has been leaked
· Exam has been postponed to a particular date
When the above is circulated by mischievous elements and is taken up by a panicked student community, it soon appears genuine. This has very unfortunate circumstances. Students either stop studying for the paper and also, in many instances, do not even appear for it, leading to unnecessary complications later. The matter also creates hindrances in the smooth functioning of the examinations as, coincidentally, or because of a careful perusal of the trend, one of the so-called leaked questions may actually come in the examination. In that case there will be unnecessary controversies where none should exist.
This is an appeal by Panjab University to all concerned that please be aware of this malicious trend. Any hint of a rumour may be verified immediately from the office of the Controller of Examinations. In the event of any postponement, the University will itself inform the media immediately and also post the same on its website
