CHANDIGARH, AUG 5 :Subhajit Saha, A Amalraj and Soumyadeep Roy, all of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board, and Sourav Chakraborty from Railway Sports Promotion Board qualified for the men’s singles semi-final of the 38th All-India Inter-Institutional Table Tennis Championships being held at Ambajhari (Nagpur).
According to information received here, Subhajit Saha defeated Raj Mondal (AAI) 11-9, 14-12, 11-9, 11-8 in the first men’s singles quarter-final match. The toughest quarter-final encounter was played between Sourav Chakraborth of Railway Sports Promotion Board and Zubin Kumar of Sports Promotion Board. Both fought for every point and the match was extended to seventh game after they were locked three-all. Sourav won 7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 16-14, 11-8, 11-7.
Petroleum Sports Promotion Board also maintained their supremacy in the women’s singles as all four semi-finalists belong to their team. Those qualified for semi-finals were Madhurika Paatkar, K Shamini, Poulomi Ghatak and Sushmita Roy.
