Chandigarh,17 Apr:More than 150 students of St. Kabir Public School marched through the walkways of the Heritage Village site, Sector 26, Chandigarh, protesting against the closure of the Heritage site. Carrying placards and speaking slogans, the students voiced their concern about the greenest spot of Sector 26 being converted to a public building site. Realising the rich Biodiversity of the area, the students expressed their worry over the proposal of a buildings coming up in place of the village pond site. The students wished that the village pond should be kept intact to preserve the habitat of the large number of plants and animals, with a special mention of the migratory birds that visit the site.Mr. Sharma, President Environment Society of India, too, expressed his concern over the decision taken over the closure of the Village Heritage Site.
