The India Post, Chandigarh, 2nd February, 2009:Professor Jai Narain Sharma, Chairman, Department of Gandhian Studies has been elected unopposed as President of Indian Society of Gandhian Studies in its Annual General Meeting during International Conference held on 28-30th January, 2009, at Gandhi Bhawan, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Prof J N Sharma has an authority on various subjects like Gandhian Thought, Research Methodology and Human Resource and also written more than 15 books and 103 research papers and articles in various Journals of International and National repute. Prof Sharma is also a visiting Professor of University of Paes, Hungry, Nagpur University , Nagpur and Jain Vishwa Bharti University , Ladnun, Rajasthan. Further, he has also produced 17 Ph.D and 20 M.Phil degrees.
The Indian Society of Gandhian Studies was formed for studying the ideas, thoughts and methods of Mahatma Gandhi at Allahabad under the presidentship of Acharya J B Kriplani in 1972. Since its inception, various top intellectuals of the country like J P Narayan, Pyarlal, K M Munshi, G Ramachandran, J K Mehta, and Mother Teresa etc had been its president in one or another time. The society has an executive committee consisting of a president, three vice presidents, one general secretary, on associate secretary, one treasurer, one local secretary, one managing editor and six members, all elected for two years to promote Gandhian Philosophy and thought in India and abroad.
Dr. Ashu Pasricha, Lecturer, Dept of Gandhian Studies, Panjab University , Chandigarh , also elected as member of the executive committee of Indian Society of Gandhian Studies for second consecutive term.
