CHANDIGARH: October 19: Mr Rajpal Singh, captain of the Indian Hockey team was today honoured by the Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.C. Sobti for winning a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games held at Delhi recently. Mr Rajpal Singh is doing B.P. Ed., enrolled as a student of Panjab University.
Showering all praise on Mr. Rajpal for bringing laurels for the Panjab University in particular and doing India proud as a whole, Prof. Sobti expressed his personal as well as that of the University community words of high praise for Rajpal and his team of players.
Elated by the distinct achievement at the Commonwealth Games, Prof. Sobti announced extension of several facilities to the outstanding sportspersons. The Vice-Chancellor offered reservation of seats and free education facility to outstanding sportspersons seeking admission to any of the courses conducted by the university. The sportspersons can avail admission to any of the courses offered by the University even in this very session by October 31, Prof. Sobti announced.
Addressing a press conference today Prof. Sobti shared with mediapersons his important experiences of the East Asia education Summit held in China recently. He told mediapersons that Memorandum of Understanding have been signed with four Chinese universities regarding exchange programme of faculty and students. The top notch educationists evinced keen interest in learning Hindi language. Prof. Sobti was accorded a red carpet welcome being a distinguished Indian on the occasion of signing important MoUs.
To streamline the process of admission and examination of private candidates, the Vice-Chancellor appointed Prof. R.K. Gupta, of the University School of Open Learning, Coordinator for all work relating to the examination forms etc. of the private candidates.
