CHANDIGARH, July 9: The Punjab Congress today said with the appointment of Bikram Singh Majithia, the brother-in-law of the Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is himself the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), as the president of the Youth Akali Dal, the process of the total privatisation of the party (the SAD) has finally been completed.
In a statement senior party leader and the PCC vice president Mr Laal Singh said, while it was an accepted fact that the SAD had become a private limited company owned by the Badals, they have further strengthened their hold on the company by making one of their close relatives Bikram Majithia as the president of its youth wing. The PCC vice president said, while the Congress had nothing to do with the internal politics of the SAD, but at the same time, it is important for the party to tell to the people of Punjab that how a party that is in power and also controls the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee, the highest parliament of Sikhs, is being run as a close knit family affair quite in an undemocratic manner.
He said, a party that is run in an autocratic and dictatorial manner by a single family cannot be expected to run a government in a democratic manner and this has been seen during the last four and a half years of Akali government when power remained and continues to remain concentrated within a single family leave apart other party leaders and the coalition partner.
