Chandigarh, Nov 18 : Well-known Left-wing activist, advocate and President of the Punjab Istri Sabha, Sheila Didi passed away in the wee hours of the morning in the PGI here where she had been admitted for a cardiac problem. She was 83.
Wife of late Madan Lal Didi, poet and labour leader, she along with her husband devoted her life to better the lot of the underprivileged. Both were active members of the Communist Party of India. Sheila played a special role in empowering women. She was one of the nominees of the worldwide campaign for 1000 women for Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.
She is survived by two daughters, Poonam Singh and Shumita Didi, and one son, Rahul Diddi, as well as grandchildren Samia, Surina, Ratika and Sehaj. Her body will be taken to the CPI office in Sector 21 21at 9.30 am on November 19 and the cremation will be held in Sector 25 at 12 noon.
