Chandigarh,13,Apr:Indian Association of Biology Teachers (Colleges) organized its 12th Annual Conference here today in the premises of GOVT. COLLEGE FOR GIRLS, SECTOR-42, CHANDIGARH. As many as 120 delegates participated in the deliberations of the conference. The function was dedicated to the memory of Prof. G.P. Sharma a renowned researcher and academician of the country. Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest while speaking on the occasion he lauded the efforts of the association. He assured the association for all level of academic and financial support. He laid stress for multi-disciplinary approach in today era of competition Prof. Sobti also released the official magazine ‘BIOSPECTRUM’.
Principal Shashi Malik in her Presidential address appreciated the activities of the association for maintaining the academic standards of Biological Sciences. Dr. Dalip Kumar, President of the Association, highlighted the contributions of the association. He elaborated that the association for the first time, collaborated the academic activities of National importance with UGC. Such activities will go a long way in providing much wider exposure to the association. He further announced that association will provide financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 21,000 to its members as Seed Money for research based activities. The association will also conduct National Olympiad in the field of Biology from the next session. The association also announced Laxmi Memorial Scholarship of Rs. 11,000 for the topper of the Punjab PMT from the current session. Dr. Ashwani Sharma, General Secretary highlighted the aims and objectives of the association.
The association also felicitated Prof. Sobti by presenting him Honorary Life Membership for his committed, invaluable and incessant services to the cause of Biological Sciences. The association also honoured renowned Entomologist of the country, Prof. Hans Raj Pajni, former Professor of Panjab University, Chandigarh for his outstanding services in the field of Insect Biodiversity. Dr.Gurdeep Singh, Principal, SGGS College, Sector-26, Mrs. Inderjit Kaur, former Principal of GCG-42, Dr. Sudish Kumar of DAV College, Chandigarh, Dr. Swaranjit Singh, Principal Khalsa College, Guru Sudhar, Dr.S.C. Bhardwaj, Principal, Dyal Singh College, Karnal, Dr. S.C. Vats, Dr. Ishar Singh of S.D.College and Dr. S.K. Dhir of G.M.N. College Ambala Cantt, were also honouerd on the occasion for their contribution in the field of Biological Sciences.
For the first time the association also honoured its members for achieving excellence in academics. Dr. Sagandeep Kaur of DAV College and Dr. Indu Mehta of SD College, Chandigarh for receiving grants of Rs. Six Lacs each from UGC, New Delhi under Major Project Scheme.
Dr. Sunil Arora, Additional Professor from the Department of Immuno Pathology, PGI, Chandigarh delivered a key note address on various aspects of HIV and Tuberculosis with special reference to the Indian scenario. Dr. Neelam Sharma Vice-President of the association coordinated the function. Dr. I.P.S. Thind Sr. member of the association proposed a vote of thanks.
