Chandigarh, April 29 – The polling for the general election for all wards of the Municipal Committee Julana, district Jind and Municipal Committee, Kanina, district Mahendergarh and bye elections for ward No.1 of Municipal Council, Tohana, district Fatehabad, ward No. 9 of Municipal Council Narnaul, district Mahendergarh, for ward No. 7 and 9 of Municipal Committee Mandi Dabwali, district Sirsa and ward No. 3 and 4 of Municipal Committee Indri, district Karnal has been conducted peaceful and no untoward incident has been reported.
While stating this today Mr Dharam Vir, State Election Commissioner said that the election was held as per the election programme issued on April 3 by the State Election Commission.
He said that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were used in these elections. One Election Observer and one Expenditure Observer each for the general elections of the Municipal Committee Julana and Kanina were appointed for smooth conduct of election. One Returning Officer and one Assistant Returning Officer, each were appointed for Municipal Committee, Kanina and Julana,. In ward No.3 & 4 of Municipal Committee, Indri, at both the seats, election was held unopposed. The polling started at 7.30 a.m. and concluded at 4.30 p.m.
He said that in Julana 88.53 per cent polling was reported and in the area of kanina it was 91.5 per cent, in Tohana 74.72 per cent and in Narnaul it was 65.14 per cent. Similarly, in Mandi it was 71.25 per cent and Dabwali recorded 76.90 per cent polling
The counting of votes started wardwise at one polling station for each ward, immediately after the close of poll. After the counting of votes, the Presiding Officers will send the account of votes secured by each candidates in the prescribed form to the Returning Officer, who will after compiling the votes declare such candidates elected, who have secured the highest number of votes.
