Chandigarh, November 21:- The Alliance française « Le Corbusier » de Chandigarh, the French Embassy in India is organizing a photo exhibition "Brasilia Chandigarh" by Stéphane Herbert from November 26 to December 12. Eminent Photographer and Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi, Mr. Diwan Manna will inaugurate the exhibition on November 25.
Trying to photograph two cities such as these can be a challenge, given the "aesthetic of fluidity" of Brasilia and the "unspeakable space" of Chandigarh. From curves to angles, their architectures are concrete utopias, poems of concrete. A kind of "material world", with strong contrasts and a deep feeling of space that illustrates Le Corbusier’s famous statement: "L’architecture est le jeu savant, correct et magnifique, des volumes assemblés sous la lumière" (Vers une architecture – 1923). Brasilia and Chandigarh are open cities. Open for free movements, open to winds and lights. The genius of these cities is also expressed in the reconciliation of urbanism with space and nature. Many inhabitants are proud of their original lifestyles. These two distinct cities exist and function in two very different countries. People may or may not appreciate them, but what is sure is that they make us reflect on how we can live city. At the dawn of the new millennium, Brasilia and Chandigarh, two modern and human cities, have found their souls.
