Second Annual Meet of PGI Speech & Hearing Alumni Association, Chandigarh was held. The function was presided over by the president of the association Dr Sanjay Munjal, Asstt. Prof.& Incharge , Speech and Hearing Unit, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The old students of Audiology & Speech Therapy from PGI, Chandigarh gathered to celebrate the reunion.
Besides a social get together, a scientific meet titled “An Update in Speech & Language” was also organized. Amongst the eminent speakers were Ms Gurvinder Jit K, who discussed about a new technique for Speech Rehabilitation of persons with laryngectomy using tracheo-esophageal Prosthesis, she emphasized that in the patients with cancer of larynx, after the surgical removal of the voice box and fitting of tracheo-esophageal prosthesis, the new voice sounds natural and the patient is able to communicate well with the family and others within a short span. Ms Sonali Vij discussed about the voice therapy in unilateral vocal fold paralysis. Mr Kanwardeep Singh presented on Speech Perception. Ms Sunita Gudwani from New Delhi discussed about customized therapy for the management of language disorders: A clinician’s perspective. Dr Dharamvir presented about a Punjabi Articulation test. Dr Bhawna Jain and Ms Dimple Goela honored the speakers at the meet. Mr. Ravi Kapoor, Joint Secretary of the association presented the vote of thanks.
Dr Sanjay Munjal, on behalf of all the PGI Speech & Hearing Alumni pledged to work hard in order to alleviate disorders pertaining to speech, language, hearing and communication.
The professionals working as Audiologist / Speech-Language Pathologists at various national or international agencies who had acquired their graduate or post-graduate degrees in the field of Speech & Hearing from PGI shared with each other their nostalgic moments in the Institute.
