Chandigarh 26 October 2009: The Indian Bahá’í community is deeply anguished at the continued persecution of the 300000 Bahá’í Community in Iran.
To express solidarity with and to pray for the safety of the Bahá’ís in Iran, a large number of delegates from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Jammu will gather at the
Bahá’í Gulistan (the Bahá’í Burial Ground, next to Cremation Ground, Sector 25, Chandigarh), at 12.00 noon, on Sunday 1st November 2009.
The Secretary-General, United Nations, in his Report to the General Assembly, dated 23 September 2009, has referred in details to the continued persecution of the beleaguered Bahá’í Community of Iran:
“48. Reports continued to be received about members of Baha’i community being subjected to arbitrary detention, confiscation of property and denial of employment, Government benefits and access to higher education. A number of communications have been sent by various special rapporteurs and the independent expert on minority issues to the Government regarding the treatment of the Baha’i Community (of Iran).” . . .
