Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh,April 6 : The Jan Lokpal Bill (Citizen’s ombudsman Bill) is a draft anti-corruption bill drawn up by prominent civil society activists seeking the appointment of a Jan Lokpal, an independent body that would investigate corruption cases, complete the investigation within a year and envisages trial in the case getting over in the next one year.
Drafted by Justice Santosh Hegde (former Supreme Court Judge and present Lokayukta of Karnataka), Prashant Bhushan (Supreme Court Lawyer) and Arvind Kejriwal (RTI activist), the draft Bill envisages a system where a corrupt person found guilty would go to jail within two years of the complaint being made and his ill-gotten wealth being confiscated. It also seeks power to the Jan Lokpal to prosecute politicians and bureaucrats without government permission.Retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi and other known people like Swami Agnivesh, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Anna Hazare and Mallika Sarabhai are also part of the movement, called India Against Corruption. Anna Hazare, anti-corruption crusader, began a fast-unto-death, demanding that this bill, drafted by the civil society, be adopted.
Now this the movement, either learn to live with corruption, or fight and support the initiative of “ fast unto death” by the doyen of social activism in India Padma Bhushan Shri Anna Hazare, which reached its second day on 6th April at Roundabout of sector 18/19, Madya Marg, Chandigarh.
Ignited by some sensibility and passion to see a corruption free India people from all walks of life have come together unasked to support Mr. B.S. Makkar and Gaurav Goel both lawyers in the Punjab and Haryana High Court who have in solidarity with Hazare not had a slightest morsel for over 36 hours now. They have resolved to continue this further. Participation of large number of people is definitely encouraging and more so the youth of this country. Mr. Anil Kripal “Ajaat” and Sumit Sharma have also joined in.
Large number of citizens from all walks of life came together at sector 17 Plaza with candles in their hands, in protest against the corruption and in support of Jan Lok Pal Bill. Students, Retired, Bussiness man, Shop owners, lawyers, all came together as a flock in huge number to support Anna Hazare, Kiran Bedi & Baba RamDev, showing their concern about the growing percentage of corruption in India. “We all want a clean Country, corruption free Nation”, was the chorus of the flock.

Adopting the gandian way will in no way help us to achieve the objective of corruption free India… We need protests and rallies and demonstrations by the common man to pressurize the government.
