Dr. Avnish Jolly, Chandigarh 31st October, 2008 :Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has introduced Energy Conservation Awards to encourage energy efficiency in Large & Small Scale Industry, Government and Commercial Buildings, Educational Institutions, Agriculture Sector, Poultry Farms and Domestic Sector.
Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia, Science & Technology and Non-Conventional Energy Minister today informed that these awards have been instituted to encourage people to conserve energy keeping in view the global energy scarcity. The Minister said that investment grade energy audit of 10 government buildings has been started and the recommendations by the consultant to bring energy efficiency in these buildings will be implemented by the concerned departments.
Mr. Majithia said that the Punjab Government has decided to introduce energy efficient Municipal street lighting system at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Bathinda and initiate energy efficiency in District Administration complexes at Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Sangrur and Mini Secretariat, Chandigarh. The PEDA has made detailed project report for these projects and tender for these projects would be floated by local government department and PWD (B&R).
Giving the details of this award scheme, Mr. T.P.S.Sidhu, Chief Executive, PEDA, told that the details for participation in the Energy Conservation Award Programme for different sectors would be available on the website of Punjab Government/ PEDA. This scheme has been formulated in line with the guidelines of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India and the entries in the prescribed format will be invited by PEDA through press advertisement in the newspapers. He said that in each category 1st , 2nd and 3rd Award in cash, memento and certificate will be given to the winners.
