CHANDIGARH, SEPT 1 :The Punjab Cricket Association is all set to start preparations for domestic season 2008-2009 with the start of Punjab State Inter District Senior Tournament for the Katoch Shield getting under way from tomorrow andculminating with a four-day final slated for September 16 to 19 at PCA Stadium in Mohali.
The teams have been divided into two pools of four teams each. Pool A comprising Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Zone B and Pool – B consisting of Patiala, Mohali, Amritsar and Zone –A. The tournament which is being played on league-cum-knockout basis will be played at Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar and Mohali.
The league stage matches are of two days duration whereas the semi- finals and finals will be played over four days.
All matches will be watched by the different set of selectors for recording the performance of individual players for picking up the probables for the state team for various National competitions. The probables picked up during the tournament will be divided into two teams which will take part in 15th All India J.P. Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament which is played in this region under the auspices of Punjab Cricket Association.
The tournament gets under way with the following league matches slated for September2 and 3 starting at 9.30 a.m.
Pool – A: Chandigarh vs Zone B at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium Chandigarh.
Ludhiana vs Jalandhar at Burlton Park in Jalandhar.
Pool-B: Patiala vs Zone – A at Dhruv Pandove Stadium, Patiala and
Mohali vs Amritsar at PCA Cricket Stadium, Mohali.
