The India Post,October 20, 2008;On Monday, in a welcome move the Punjab Cricket Association and State AIDS Control Society, U.T., Chandigarh, arranged special passes for 50 adolescents from Children’s Centre of YUVSATTA in Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, Chandigarh.
35 of these children were from All Girls Cricket Team formed by volunteers of Yuvsatta in slum settlement. Girls whose mobility in traditional settings is restricted and early marriages are a norm. They have no life outside the confines of homes. With the efforts of Yuvsatta now their daily schedule combines sports, literacy, and life skills training for real empowerment.
Anjana and Poonam the Captain of Junior and Senior teams respectively were very excited to once again see all the players in action, earlier during the week the two were specially selected by UNICEF officials to join Sachin Tendulkar and Team India at the launch of ‘Global Hand washing Day’ and now all the other girls of their team have also joined to see the magic of sports in reality.
A group of 14 boys who are managing the Kitab Ghar (the Chidlren’s library) and vocational centre in Bapu Dham were also for a treat in this group and their journey to stadium and later refreshments were arranged by KB DAV Sr. Sec. School and Talwar Dairy.
