CHANDIGARH, APRIL 11:Parminder Kaur, a trainee of Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association and ninth eighth class student of St Stephen’s School, Sector 45,had to remain herself satisfied with silver medals in the girls Under-16 and Under-14 sections as her rivalTarranum Handa od Delhi emerged winners in both finals of the AITA Super Series organised by Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association at the CLTA Sports Complex in Sector 10 here today.
Tarranum, a ninth class student of Ganga International School, Rohtak Road, New Delhi, defeated Parminder Kaur in both the events 6-3, 0-6,6-1 and 6-3, 7-6, respectively. Both the matches were keenly contested with both players trading groundstrokes. It was a quality contest and an excellent display of power and control. In the Under 14 match Tarranum dominated with an array of very strong baseline play. In the final tall Parminder Kaur was more determined. After losing the first set the CLTA trainee came back very strong winning the second 6-0. One would have thought that the Match was over fr Tarranum. The tenacious Delhi girl pounced back played ball for ball and attacked at the right time forcing Parminder to make many an unforced error. Parminder had many chances serving and returning 40-0 and 40-15 but failed to capitalize and eventually succumbed to the Champion 1-6 in the decider.
R. Ramkumar made short work of his under 16 singles final s beating Vishwesh 6-2, 6-1 in one sided contest. Ramkumar’s solid baseline tactics served him well. Unfortunately Ramkumar had to concede his under 14 finals to Ajay Yadav as he had to be leave for China where the Indian Under 14 team will be playing the Asia/Oceania World Group Qualifying under-14 Championships.
