Chandigarh, Sanjay Pahwa: Defying all poll predictions , the SAD – BJP aaliance is all set to retain power in Punjab , defeating Congress party in the 2012 assebly elections. The combine created history as this the first time that an incumbent has been voted to power in Punjab. S. Parkash Singh Badal is all set to become Chief Minister for a record 5th time. It is a big setback for Punjab Congress President S. Amarinder Singh. Development appeared to have worked for the SAD-BJP alliance.
The People’s Party of Punjab(PPP) failed to make its mark in the Punjab assembly elections, with party chief losing in Gidderbaha and Maur constituencies. PPP, has come a cropper in terms of seats, it appears to have hurt the Congress by cutting into its votes. The Congress which showed complacency with its leaders fighting for tickets, has also been hit by rebels.
In a statement issued here, Party Supremo Parkash Singh Badal and Party President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal said that these results of Punjab elections were stamp of approval on pro-poor and pro-people policies of SAD-BJP government, who has endorsed its development vision.
Promising to carry forward the development agenda of the SAD-BJP government, the SAD leaders said that coalition was committed to fulfill all promises made to the people in its election manifesto. They said that people of Punjab has realized that it was only SAD-BJP government that fulfilled the promises whereas Congress ignored the people after getting vote from them.
