Chandigarh December 6, 2008: – The very first title of the ongoing YMCA Total Tennis Championship, being played at Total Tennis Academy’s YMCA sector 11 Chandigarh premises was Param Pun, second seed in boys under 10 age category.
Param Pun of CLTA beat his practice partner and the top seed Sumit Pal Singh of J&K in three very well fought sets lasted for over two hours. Param played great overall tennis from from baseline and from net winning the first set with a break by 6-4, but in the second set Sumit back by winning the second set with an identical score at 6-4. At one set all both played great tennis till the score levels at 5-5 and a solitary break in the eleventh game giving Param Pun a vital advantage and he served hard and win the game, set, match and the title in his faour. The final score was read in the Param Pun’s favour 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
The second title of the championship won by unseeded Ranjodh Singh, when he beat the third seed Sachin kumar of CLTA in the boys under 14 category in three very well fought sets, lasted for 90 minutes. In the very first set it was Ranjodh Singh all the way, as he conceded just one game in wiining the first set by 6-1. In the second set Sachin camer back hard wining the second set with a break by 6-4. Then in the third and final set both held their serve till the score 4-4. then a double fault and few unforced errors gave advantage to Ranjodh, as he served well, wrapping the match and the title in his favour by winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
The third title of the day went to Top seeded Nikita Bisnoi in the girls under 12 age category by beating the second seed Nehmat Aulakh in straight sets in 35 minutes by 6-0 , 6-2.
In the boys under 12 age category top seed Sachin Kumar and unseeded Paramveer Bajwa of YPS Patiala made it to the final stage by beating Param Pun and Utkarsh Khosla respectively. Sachin Kumar beat Param Pun with ease conceding just two games by 4-1, 4-1. But Paramveer Bajwa had to fight before winning against Utkarsh Khosla in three sets in 80 minutes by 1-4, 5-3, 4-2.
In the boys under 16 age category Ravisher Singh and Aviraj Kamboj will face each other in the final to be played tomorrow. Ravisher Singh beat Parminder Singh in straight sets conceding just three games by 6-0, 6-3. Aviraj Kamboj beat Andrew Pardeep in straight sets by 6-0, 6-3.
In the girls under 10 age category Prinkle Singh of J&K will face Shea Bhasin in the finals to be played tomorrow. Prinkle Singh beat Seerat Sidhu by 6-2 and Shea Bhasin beat Shreya Bali by 6-0.
According to Mr. Devinder Kapoor, Director Total Tennis, boys under 12, under 16 and boys under 18 finals along with girls under 10 and under 14 finals will be played tomorrow from 9:00 AM followed by the prize distribution ceremony.
