The India Post, Chandigarh, 3rd September :The Panjab University is celebrating Teacher’s Day on September 5 in a somewhat unconventional way by organizing Panjab University Teacher’s Convention on this occasion.
The main objective of this convention, according to Professor Shelley Walia, is ‘to provide a common platform to the faculty members from different disciplines so that the possibility of initiating genuine dialogue across disciplines could effectively be explored. For a long time now, we in the university have been deliberating over how we could bring down the rigid boundaries demarcating different disciplines and create greater space for inter-disciplinary communication. This convention is the first step in that direction.’ Eight professors from different disciplines will be giving a talk at the University Auditorium. The former Vice Chancellor, Professor R. P. Bambah will be the Chief Guest.
Teacher’s Day is observed every year on September 5 which coincides with the birthday of Dr Sarvpalli Radhakrishnan, perhaps the greatest philosopher-teacher we have had in recent times. On this day, the Panjab University teachers re-dedicate themselves to their vocation and reiterate their commitment to the cause of teaching and research according to Professor Shelley Walia, Dept. of English, PU.
