Noted vocalist of Agra Gharana, Pandit Yashpaul, who had earlier this year been selected for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar, performed to a full house at Bal Bhawan in Sector 23 last night.
During the 90 minutes programme Pandit Ji regaled the audience with a number of ragas specially chosen to suit the occasion. These included:
• Madhuwanti (slow and fast compositions)
• Kedar
• Sohni
He was accompanied by Shaminder Singh on sarangi, Paramjit Singh on tabla and Kashish & Lovish Mittal on taanpura. The function, organized by Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association of which Pandit Yashpaul is a member drew lovers of classical music from all age groups. Sh KK Sharma, Advisor to Administrator, UT Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest. Others present included Gen (Retd) VP Malik, Sh Rajan Kashyap and several old students of Pandit Ji.
Talking to media persons, Brig. Keshav Chandra, President of the Association, said members of the Association were naturally proud of the great honour conferred on one of their peers and organizing the evening’s function was their way of showing their appreciation.
