The India Post, Chandigarh, 30th October, 2008 :Centre for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension in collaboration with CARES, Mohali (an NGO) organized an orientation programme on ‘Girl Child: A Fight for Dignity” at Maloya Creche, Madrasi Colony, Maloya. More than 30 women participated in the Orientation Programme.
Dr. Prabha Vig, Sr. Project Officer from the Centre said that Poverty & Gender Inequality forms a vicious cycle to push millions of women and girls into a trap of constant denial of human rights, deprivation and extreme discrimination. She further added that it is the poverty which causes girls and women to sink in conditions that are detrimental to their physical and mental well being such as trafficking, early marriage and physical violence. She further added that today India calls for banning sex selection test (PNDT0, more education, health and nutrition and care for the girl child.
