The India Post, Chandigarh, July 30 :Centre for Adult Continuing Education & Extension, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised a Orientation and Training Program on Adolescent Health and Healthy Living at Govt. Sr. Secondary School, Dhanas. About 80 Adolescents and Teachers attended the Program. The objective was to appreciate the Life Skills Program for healthy living among Adolescents.
Mrs Renu Gandhi, Programme Incharge from the Department of CACEE, P.U., expressed the need to introduce the concept of appropriate Life Skill Education Programs and Counseling among Adolescents so that they can take rational and informed decisions and develop necessary life skills required to reduce their vulnerability to HIV infection and Drug Addiction among
Adolescents.. She emphasized that awareness alone would not help the Adolescents to protect from HIV infection but Life Skill and additional socialization would go a long way to protect them from HIV/AIDS. Life Skills like decision making, problem solving, creativity, empathy, time management and emotional stability would help the adolescents in their day today life. She added would help.
Ms Vijay Kumari, Principal of School observed that students have their own problems in relation to their physical, mental and social. This could be done by information and attention in their day to-day life because of the spread of HIV/AIDS. But the people are hesitant to ask to parents and teachers and thus read below average literature and interact with their fellow being who are equally ignorant which results into sexually transmitted diseases. It is, therefore necessary to guide them at their right age.
Ms Anupama proposed a vote of thanks to the organizer and said that there is a need to acquaint the Adolescent to adopt Life Skills for risk reduction behavior among Adolescents, according to Director CACEE, P.U.
