The PGI administration has gone out of its way to ensure that the genuine grievances of the Operation Theatre Assistants are redressed expeditiously. However, the Operation Theatre Assistants have unilaterally decided to go on a strike w.e.f. the night shift of 14.03.11.
In spite of the difficulties faced by the administration, we have made arrangements with the help of faculty, resident doctors, nursing personnel and other categories of staff to ensure that essential medical services are not curtailed in any manner. All Operation Theatres in the institute have functioned normally during this period as can be ascertained from the following table, which depicts the total number of surgeries performed from 10.03.11 to 15.03.11. The below table clearly shows that the number of surgeries performed during the strike is no less than on any other day.
The Institute has responsibility towards its patients. Essential patient care services should not be compromised under any circumstances. We would ensure that work in the Operation Theatres would continue as before. The administration will continue to make efforts to ensure that patient care is not adversely effected.
