Chandigarh, November 18:- The Health Department, Chandigarh Administration carried out mop-up Pulse Polio Campaign in Chandigarh from November 16 to 18 as per the instructions of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. During the campaign, 462 stationary booths and 93 mobile teams were deputed for effective coverage of 0-5 years old children against this dreaded disease.
About one lakh children were immunized in this Second mop-up round carried out for three days with one day booth activity and two days of house to house coverage.
The campaign was successful with guidance and active inspections carried out by Sh. Ram Niwas, Health Secretary, UT, Chandigarh Administration, Dr. M.S. Bains, Mission Director cum Director Health and Family Welfare, U.T., Chandigarh and Dr. Usha Bishnoi Kapoor, Joint Director Health and Family Welfare cum Medical Superintendent, GMSH-16 in various slums and colonies. Non-Government Organizations, Religious leaders, Municipal Councillors of UT, Chandigarh too contributed in the campaign by motivating the parents to participate in this campaign by bringing their children to the booths for getting oral polio vaccine drops.
Independent monitors deputed by World Health Organization/PGIMER/Government Medical College, Sector 32, Chandigarh inspected the campaign and appreciated the efforts made by Chandigarh Administration.
The next mop-up round of Pulse Polio will be held from December 14 to 16, 2008. All parents are requested to enthusiastically participate as done earlier.
