Manoj Godara ,14 Dec : The 24th North Zone Inter University Youth Festival organized by Panjab University in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities and sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India witnessed loads of cultural and artistic activities on the 2nd day.
Seven events, Folk Orchestra and Skit , Classical Vocal Solo and Semi Classical Vocal (Solo), Elocution and Poster Making and Cartooning Competition were held at 4 venues Law Audi, English Audi, Evening Studies Audi and Fine Arts Museum respectively in Panjab University Campus.
As many as 86 teams showcased their talent on the second day of the fest in various events and mesmerized the audiences with some brilliant performances.
The five teams which participated in Folk Orchestra were from Punjabi University, Patiala, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. The participants used traditional folk instruments and gave spell bounding performances.
The 13 teams which competed in the skit were from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Panjab Technical University, Jallandhar, University of Jammu, Jammu, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, AMU, Aligarh, Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi, University of Bundelkhand, Jhansi, Punjabi University, Patiala, Panjab University,
Chandigarh, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, University of Kashmir, Srinagar. The skits covered the varied spectrum of issues relating to changes taking place in our Society. The highlights of the skit competition were issues of Female Foeticide, aping western cultural ethos blindly by youth of India etc.
The ten participant teams in Classical Vocal Solo performed various traditional Indian Ragas like “Bilas Khnai Todi”, “Raag Bihag”, Raag Maru Bihag” and Raag Asavari. The teams were from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, LPU, Phagwara, MDU, Rohtak, PTU, Jallandhar, P.U., Chandigarh, Pbi. University, Patiala, University of Jammu, Jammu University of Kashmir, Srinagar. The team from GNDU performed “Bilas Khnai Todi”, team from P.U. performed “Raag Bihag”, team from Pbi. Univ. performed “Raag Maru Bihag”.
Ten teams participated in the Semi Classical Vocal (Solo). The participants performed Thumri and Kajri. “Thumri” was performed by seven teams from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, MDU, Rohtak, LPU, Phagwara, Kamaun University, Nainital, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, Pbi. University, Patiala and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The team from PU performed “Tappa” and team from CCS Univ., Meerut performed “Kajri”. The team from AMU Aligarh performed “Hazrat Ameer Khusro ki Bandish”.
Total 15 teams participated in the Elocution. The participants were given the topic of “Youth Festival for National Integration” and the option of speaking in English or Hindi was given to the participating teams. The teams were from LPU, Phagwara, PAU, PU, University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, GNDU, KU, Punajbi University, Kumaun University, Nainital, PTU, Jallandhar, JMU, Delhi, AMU, Aligarh,
CDLU, Sirsa, Sirsa, GADVASU, Ludhiana, MDU, Rohtak.
Seventeen teams participated in the Poster making competition on the theme of “Abide the Traffic Rules”. While a total of 16 teams took part in the Cartooning competition on the theme of “Election Campaign” according to Dr. S.M. Kant, Director Youth Welfare
