The India Post, Chandigarh, 3rd March, 2009 :Different NGOs, in association with Hospitals rendering health care service to the people. Tammana organized a health camp today in which around 75 people from Janta Colony, Naya Gaon were examined at the free health camp.
They were screened for Diabetes & Obesity along with blood sugar, body weight, body fat and blood pressure through the latest BMI machine, Ace Check sensor & Glucometer with glucose strips. The medication as prescribed by Fortis doctors was distributed free of cost by Ranbaxy LE-CV-LIFE. These included medication for Diabetes, obesity, blood pressure, general pain killers and antacid. In the age group of 25-70 years, it was found that there was 40% prevalence of Malnutrition, 25% of Vitamin D Deficiency, 15 were found hypertensive and 10 Diabetic. One case of undetected hypo thyroidism was deteced.
A team of four from the Fortis hospital included Dr Priyanka, Multi Specialty Medical Officer, Nurses- Deepika, Manjeet and Diksha Suri, Media & Communications. They were headed by Dr. Gagan Priya, MD, DM, Endocrinology who said that “The nation is witnessing an alarming rise in the prevalence of diabetes over the last few decades, largely attributable to a change in lifestyle superimposed on a genetic predisposition. Most of the diabetics are diagnosed incidentally, because there may be no symptoms and yet they may already be suffering from complications related to diabetes. We take this opportunity to organize a health camp for the detection of these unknown cases and to provide medical support to diabetic patients. This is a small effort on our part to spread awareness among the population regarding a serious disease and how best to manage it.”
An other Social organisation Democratic Youth Federation of India and Guru Gobind Singh Sports Club, Village Dadu Majra are organizing 14th Shahid Bhagat Singh Memorial “Free Eye Check up and Operation Camp” from 20.3.2009 to 23.3.2009 at Govt. High School, Village Dadu Majra, U.T. Chandigarh. Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister of State for Finance will inaugurate the Camp on 20.3.2009 at 10.30 a.m.
Dr. K.S. Rana from Multi Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh and his team will check up the patients on 20.3.2009 and those patients who were recommended for operations would be operated on 21.3.2009 at Civil Dispensary, Sector 22, Chandigarh.
There will be free arrangement of food, fruits, bedding etc. from 20.3.2009 to 23.3.2009. The patients would be relieved on 23.3.2006.
