CHANDIGARH, SEPT 22 :Second seed Navika and Mehak Sood proved a better combination as they upset top seed pair of Rahsmi and Shreya by 21-12, 21-13 in the girls under-16 doubles final of the 20th Yonex Chandigarh State Badminton Championship being conducted by Chandigarh Badminton Club under the patronage of Chandigarh Badminton Association at the Sector 42 Badminton Hall here today.
Mehak Sood has won four titles — girls under-13 singles and doubles and girls under-16 singles and doubles.
Top seed Tarush and Rishab emerged winners in the boys under-16 doubles as they defeated Kenneth Wong and Sameer in strraight games 21-17, 21-14.
Top seed Navika Thakur and second seed Manju Chahal moved into the women’s singles final. Both winners were extended to three games by their respective rivals in the semi-final contest. After splitting the first two games, Navika snuffed out the challenge of Purnika by 21-15, 18-21, 21-18. Manju Chahal and Nisha Sethi also split the first two games before Manju emerging winner by 21-10, 18-21, 21-16.
Nisha, however, had the consolation of entering the girls singles final. Top seed Nisha ousted Navika by 21-9, 21-11 in the semi-final match. In contrast second seed Chetna toiled to get the better of Gurleen 15-21, 21-13, 21-16 in the hotly contested second semi-final.
Ace Chandigarh player and top seed Oscar Bansal along with Ashish Sharma, Vivek Sharma and second seed Pankaj Nathani stormed into the men’s singles final. Oscar ended the challenge of Vikas Kundu 21-14, 21-18 and Pankaj Nathani accounted for Tushar 21-12, 21-19. Ashish rallied to beat Tejinder 17-21, 21-10, 21-5 and Vivek Sharma ousted Akshay Sethi 21-12, 21-17 in the men’s quarter-final matches.
Boys under-16 doubles (final): Tarush and Rishab bt Kenneth Wong and Sameer 21-17, 21-14.
Boys singles under-19 (q-finals): Tushar bt Prerak 21-14, 21-10, Abhinav Thakur bt Amanpreet Singh 21-3, 21-10, Harmaninder bt Harmininder 21-6, 21-17, Mahip bt Aman Sethi 21-15, 17-21, 21-7.
Men’s singles (QFs): Oscar Bansal bt Vikas Kundu 21-14, 21-18, Ashish Sharma bt Tajinder 17-21, 21-10, 21-5, Vivek Sharma bt Akshay Sethi 21-12, 21-17, Pankaj Nathani bt Tushar 21-12, 21-19.
