30 Jan :One Day National Seminar cum Workshop on Peace Education: Values and Orientation, was held at Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36 B, Chandigarh on 30th January 2009. More than 60 teacher educators and prospective teachers participated in the Seminar.
Delegates of different colleges from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and H.P. presented their papers through Multimedia presentations on various themes of the seminar like Teaching Community and Peace: Meeting the Challenges, Peace and Non violence in India: Historical Perspective, Terrorism: A Challenge to Peace, Youth and Peace: Mission of Life, Women and Peace: Living for Harmony.
The Session began by the key note address of the Chief Guest Dr. Nalina Jivnani, Director, Bahai office for the advancement of women, New Delhi. Two minutes silence was observed and a pledge on Non Violence was administered to the participants of the seminar to mark the Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi and in the memory of people who lost their lives in Mumbai Terrorist Attack.
The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof. Raj Gupta, Chairperson, Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh, chaired the technical session I on the theme “ Teaching Community and Peace: Meeting the Challenges and Dr. Batani devi was the facilitator . Dr. Swaraj Singh, M.D., Diplomat and Social Activist, USA, chaired the parallel session II on the sub theme “Peace and Non violence in India: Historical Perspective, and “Terrorism: A Challenge to Peace” and Dr. Kiran Chopra acted as the facilitator. And the III parallel session “Youth and Peace: Mission of life and Women and Peace: Living for Harmony” was chaired by Mrs. Nalina Jivnani and Dr. Anuradha Agnihotri was the facilitator.
The participants deliberated on the themes of the seminar and came out with some remarkable recommendations.
The coordinators for the workshop and Valedictory Session of the seminar were Dr. D.R. Vij, President CTE, Punjab Chapter and Dr. (Mrs) Satinder Dhillon, Principal, Divya Shiksha Gurukul College of Education, Dera Bassi. In his presidential address Dr. D. R. Vij appreciated the efforts of the college for conducting such a thought provoking seminar on peace which is the need of hour. Dr. (Mrs) Satinder Dhillon, in her valedictory address said that teachers are the best means who can bring peace as they can change the minds of the young generation. She congratulated the organizers and the staff of the college for the successful completion of the seminar. Dr. Jyoti Khanna, Principal of the college thanked all the delegates, teachers and students for making this seminar a success.
