Chandigarh, Jan 11 : Keeping in view the coming Lok Sabha elections the National Scheduled Castes Alliance (NSCA) and the Chamar Mahan Sabha have decided to organize a Scheduled Castes awareness samelan to make the community aware about its rights. In this connection like-minded organizations will be invited on a common platform on January 18 at Guru Ravidas Harimandir in Patiala.
“ This samelan is the need of the hour as the main political parties often mislead the SC community to capture this vote bank which comprises around 35 per cent of the total population in Punjab. The Congress and the Akali-BJP combine have failed to provide a strong leadership for the SC community,” said president of NSCA, Paramjit Singh Kainth.
“Whether it’s the Central government or the state government issues concerning the welfare of the SC community have been continuously ignored. The SC community continues to struggle for its rights and for justice even after 65 years of an independent India. At the grassroot level there has not been much change in the condition of this community. There has been mere lip service regarding their empowerment. The community is a victim of humiliation, casteism and atrocities,” said Kainth.
