Dr. Avnish Jolly, Chandigarh, 1st March, 2009 : Shri Dip Chand Memorial National Moot Court Competition–2009, the final rounds were conducted today. The four semi-finalist teams comprising of National Law University Jodhpur, Government Law College Mumbai, Campus Law Centre II, Delhi University and Army Institute of Law, Mohali vied against each other for the coveted seats in the final rounds.
All the teams displayed high standards of legal arguments in the moot court competition which touched on the issue of Consumer Protection. The final rounds were convincingly swept away by National Law University, Jodhpur consisting of Akansha Dubey, Vijya Sharma and Nitin Kaushal. The best memorial award was bagged by Army Institute of Law, Mohali and best mooter award was won by Akansha Dubey.
Through this moot court competition the budding lawyers got an opportunity to present their legal trainings before the legal illuminists who were generous enough to extend their professional expertise in judging the competition. The semi-finals were judged by Hon’ble Justice Rajan Gupta, Hon’ble Justice Ajay Tiwari, Hon’ble Justice M.M.S. Bedi and Hon’ble Justice Mahesh Grover, where as the finals were judged by Hon’ble Justice Rajive Bhalla, Hon’ble Justice Rakesh Kumar Grag and Dr. Balram K. Gupta.
The judges in totality appreciated the participation and efforts of the students and organizer of competition.
The valedictory function of the moot court competition was presided over by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ashok Bhan (Retd.), President, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, New Delhi. In his valedictory marks his lordship highlighted the importance of consumer awareness under the theme Jago Grahak Jago.
Also ilumating the function with his dynamic presence for the guest of honour Prof. R.C. Sobti, Padam Shree who appreciated the inputs from the student fraternity.
