The University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys, ranked amongst top 10 law firms in India and is world’s first SA 8000, ISO 14001 and Asia’s first ISO 9002 certified law firm, is holding a National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition-2011 (India North Rounds) for the third time in series at UILS from 16 September to 18 September, 2011.The unique format of trial advocacy moot which aims at imparting clinical legal training to law students and churning their cross-examination skills has attracted students from 14 law schools namely – National Law University-Jodhpur, Gujarat National Law University, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law-Patiala, School of Law-KIIT university-Bhubaneswar, NUALS- Kochi, NLIU-BHOPAL, Faculty of Law-University of Lucknow, Baba Farid Law College-Faridkot, Institute of Law-Nirma University, University Institute of Law-PURC, Ludhiana, Amity Law School-Lucknow, MATS Law School- Raipur.
The case problem pertains to test the participant’s clarity of the principles of criminal law, including the procedural nuances of a criminal trial and the application of Information Technology Act, 2000.
The competition will be judged by galaxy of Hon’ble Judges of Panjab & Haryana High Court, eminent senior advocates, legal luminaries and distinguished law professors.
The Valedictory ceremony will be held on 18th September and presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. R. C. Sobti, Prof. Sangita Bhalla, Director, UILS, Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.M Kumar, Acting Chief Justice, Panjab & Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajive Bhalla, Judge, Panjab & Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ranjit Singh Randhawa, Judge, Panjab & Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Panjab & Haryana High Court and Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.K. Mittal, Judge, Panjab & Haryana High Court and Mr. G.K Chathrath, Dean Faculty of Law and senior advocate. Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.M Kumar, Acting Chief Justice, Panjab & Haryana High Court, has very kindly consented to be the Chief Guest.
On the second day preliminary rounds will be conducted in two sessions followed by the semi-finals. The first session of preliminary rounds will begin at 9:30 a.m and the second session at 12 p.m and semi-finals thereafter at 3:30 p.m. The final rounds will be held on Sunday at 9:30 a.m followed by the valediction and prize distribution function which will begin at 12 p.m.
