Dr. Avnish Jolly. Chandigarh, 11th October, 2008:The Governor of Haryana Dr. A.R. Kidwai, stressed upon the role of Hospital Administrators in current health scenario. He said that with the advancement of medical science and fast changing technologies in Health care the role of hospital administrators has become very vital in efficient and effective management of hospitals. Dr. Kidwai was speaking at the second National Conference on Hospital Administration-Recent Trends – HART at the ‘Bhargwa Auditorium’ in PGIMER, Chandigarh after inaugurating the two day conference organized by the Department of Hospital Administration, attended by over 300 delegates from all parts of country.He said that hospital administrators should also keep in mind the needs of the patients during formulation of strategies and all efforts should be patient centric.
While addressing the conference, Prof. K.K Talwar, Director PGI said that as health care industry was expanding, the role of hospital administrator will become more challenging and in future there will be more need of qualified hospital administrators. Prof. A.K. Gupta, Medical Superintendent, PGIMER and chairman of organizing committee HART-2008 welcomed all the delegates and hope that the conference deliberation will help delegates in managing hospitals in a more efficient way. Dr. Ashok Kumar, organizing secretary HART 2008 delivered the vote of thanks. A souvenir was also released at this occasion by Prof. Vinay Sakhuja, Dean, PGIMER.
The first scientific session which was chaired by Lt. Gen. N K Parmar, DGHS (Army), started with the presentation of Prof. Raj Bahadur, Director Principal, GMCH 32, Chandigarh on the role of National Disaster Management Authority in disaster management. This was followed by Major Gen. (Dr.) Shamsher Singh, Commandant, Command Hospital, Chandimandir, who talked about the role of Hospital Administrators in the management of disaster. Prof. S.K. Malhotra of PGI discussed how to cope with the internal disasters in hospitals. In the session of "Role of Hospital Administrators in control of HIV/ AIDS" Shivi Negi from National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), New Delhi talked about the new concept of National AIDS controlprogramme-III which are must know for Health Administrators. She also stressed that the safety of the staff of hospitals is of a prime concern and hospital administrators must ensure the same.
Dr. Rajeev Singhal, Director, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, Pune discussed role of hospital administrators in controlling HIV/AIDS. Col. U.B. Misra from AFMC, Pune , Dr. Ashok Chordiya from Fortis Hospital Mohali and Dr. Atul Adaniya from Reliance Mumbai discussed the legal and ethical aspects in health care organization. The day concluded with the session of "Hospital accreditation and quality control". During the session Dr. Simmar Gill shared the experience of JCI accreditation of Fortis Hospital, Mohali. Dr. Rekha Batura from Tata Hospital Mumbai, Dr. D.C. Joshi and Dr. Santosh from IIHMR, Jaipur presented the papers on quality control in Hospitals. A poster competition was also held in which the young hospital administrators show cased their posters on some of the recent issues like terrorist attacks on hospitals, patient safety etc. The prize winning poster were of Dr Neelu Arora, Dr Shweta, Dr Mahesh R & Dr Bindiya.
