Chandigarh, October 14:- UT Home Secretary, Mr. Ram Niwas today inspected the progress of ongoing developmental projects through spot visits. He visited the progress of work at Tagore Theatre, Bal Bhawan and Regional Institute for Mentally Challenged Children, Sector 31.
During the visit he took stock of the renovation work of the Tagore Theatre. He examined the status of work on all components including the setting up of wooden stage, green rooms, reception area and installation of curtains. UT Chief Engineer Mr. Krishanjit Singh assured Home Secretary that the renovation work would be completed till October 25, 2008. Mr. Niwas told the Executing agencies to meet the deadline and ensure completion of the project with all state-of-art facilities in time. The members of the Cultural Advisory Committee and other senior stage artists put forward some noteworthy suggestions which were then decided to be incorporated in the ongoing construction work.
The Rehearsal Arena, previously existing in the Tagore Theatre, has been planned to be transformed into a Studio Theatre with all the state-of-the-art facilities like Light and sound and Air conditioning.
Mr. Niwas also inspected the revamping of Bal Bhawan, Sector 23. He scrutinized the development of the Auditorium with a seating capacity of about 300 and the open air theatre. The officials of the Engineering Department have ensured to handover the Auditorium on December 31. Home Secretary then also paid visit to the Doll Museum in the Bal Bhawan.
Health Secretary further examined the progress of Regional Institute for the Rehabilitation of Mentally Challenged Children, Sector 31 after the completion of which, the mentally challenged children of Prayaas, Samarth and Government Institute for Mentally Retarded Children would be shifted to the new building. The basement and first floor of the building has already been completed and officials have ensured of completing the whole block till December. Health Secretary directed the executing agencies to expedite the construction work to benefit the target groups needing urgent relief. He also visited the Drug De addiction Center, Sector 31.
During the review visit UT Home Secretary was accompanied by Director Public Relations, Mr. R.S. Verma, Director Social Welfare, Ms. Amandeep Kaur, Director Health Services, Mr. M.S. Bains, Secretary, Triveni Sangeet Sabha, Ms. Promila Puri, Member, Cultural Advisory Committee, Prof. Rani Balbir Kaur, Chairman, Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi, Mr. Diwan Manna, Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Mr. Kamal Tiwari, Architect, Ms. Namita Singh, Ms. Neelam Man Singh and other officials of Engineering Department.
