The India Post, Chandigarh, 12th November, 2008 : The Seven-day Motivational Contact Program for talented School students (5–11 November 2008) conducted by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology in collaboration with the Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh, concluded with a valedictory function here today. Dr. Neelam Gulati Sharma, Additional Director, PSCST, thanked the Vice-Chancellor Panjab University , and the physics department for collaboration in organizing the program. She distributed participation certificates to the students, medals for active participation in the program.
The 7-day program involved lectures by experts and face-to-face interaction sessions with eminent scientists, from various fields, like, physics, mathematics, medicine, biology, computer graphics, astrophysics, earth sciences, physics education, besides quiz program.
Students enjoyed the visit to ‘Anveshika’ Hands-on-Laboratory facility at SGGS College Sector 26, observation of night sky with 11” Schmidt – Cassegrain Telescope in the department, visit to Science City , Kapurthala, TBRL, Chandigarh . They also visited CYCLOTRON laboratory and Geology Museum on the P.U., campus.
The visit to various facilities and interaction with various experts was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. The organizers hoped that the program made an impression on the young students to take up science as a career according to Prof. Manjit Kaur, Dept. of Physics, P.U.
