Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh,March 14 : MCM DAV College for Women felicitated its achievers in a glittering Prize Distribution Function today. This prestigious occasion was graced by His Excellency Sh. Jagannath Pahadia, Honourable Governor of Haryana as the Chief Guest and Sh. Nek Chand ji as the Guest of Honour. In the event more than 400 students were awarded for their excellence in academics, cultural activities and sports. The college also felicitated its alumna Ms. Isha Kalia, Assistant District Collector, Gangtok, Dr. Suveera Gill, Associate Professor, Accounting and Finance, University Business School, PU, Chandigarh, and Ms. Rashmi Bindra, a leading fashion designer. The Annual Newsletter of MCM 2010-11 was also unveiled at the event by the Chief Guest. The event was attended by Justice Bahri, who presided over the ceremony, Sh. Vijay Sabharwal, Secretary, DAV College Managing Committee, parents and dignitaries from various fields.
To inspire the academic achievers cash prizes worth 3 lacs, college colours, special prizes and trophies were given. In the colourful event, the Chief Guest honoured the college teams for Giddha, Folk Dance, Group Song, Drama, Indian Orchestra, Group Sahabad and Quiz with the College Colour for their exquisite performance in zonal and inter-zonal Youth festivals.
Ravina of BA I received College Colour for Elocution while Tamanna Chawla of BA II received it for Poetry Recitation and Histrionics and Namrata for Cartooning. Tanvi of BA II received the award of being the Best NCC Cadet while Priyanka of BA III received the honour of being the Best Rotractor of the year 2010-11. Arohi Sharma of MA I Sociology, Priyanka Gupta of B Sc MFT I and Sarika Shekhawat of B Sc II received cash award for standing first in PU Annual Examination, while Arpit Sharma of MA I Sociology, Parul Sharma of B Sc MFT I and Suman Choudhary of B Sc MFT II received accolades for standing second in PU Annual Examination and Himani Jain of BCA I received award for standing third in PU Annual Examination. Jaspinder Kaur was honoured for being the Overall Best performer in Cultural Activities, while Divya Malhotra was announced the Overall Best performer in Academics. The title of being Overall bets in Extra-curricular activities went to Divya Gurnay and Keerti Gahlawat received the prestigious Mrs. S. Roy Memorial Award.
Lauding the achievements of the students in varied fields, the Chief Guest Shri Jagannath Pahadia ji congratulated the Principal, staff and students for the ever-growing graph of their achievements. Sh. Pahadia congratulate MCM as a great institution and asserted that with the multi faceted talents of the students of MCM, the college will continue to outshine regional competition and create new landmarks of success for the world to follow. Sh. Nek Chand ji also profusely congratulated the students and faculty of MCM on achieving such landmarks of success in all dimensions of education. He also inspired the students to take on innovative standards of performance in their future endeavours.
The Principal of the College, Dr Puneet Bedi presented the college Annual Report highlighting the activities and achievements of the college in the session 2010-11. She congratulated the prize winners and motivated the students to scale greater heights. Dr. Bedi also expressed her strong belief in the capabilities of an MCM student to imbibe a holistic mélange of culture and modernity in her personality and be an all-rounder in the academic, social, sporting, professional, cultural and familial spheres.
