The India Post, Chandigarh, 28th August,2008:MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh in conjunction with Rotract Club organised a grand festival today to raise money for community service. The afternoon of glamour for noble cause started with a welcome speech by Umang Sota, the president of the club and lighting of the lamp ceremony. The chief guests for the Rotract Princess Contest, which aimed to raise funds for underprivileged young cancer patients, were Mr. Satish Saluja and his wife Dr. Sunita Saluja.
The students of ‘Sikhya’, a local school based in sector 46 for the education of slum children, danced their way into the hearts of the audience on the tunes of ‘Taare Zameen Par’. “Cure is limited but not care” was the motto for the day. The principal of MCM DAV, Dr. (Mrs. Puneet Bedi), generously donated Rs. 10,000 for the treatment of two young cancer patients Amanpeet (aged 7) and Chintu (aged 9) and the college promised to sponsor the entire treatment of these two boys. The Chief Guest, Mr. Satish Saluja donated Rs. 5100 towards this cause. Mr. Duggal, the president of Rotary and Mr. Baldev Aggarwal, District Additional Secretary, Rotract Club also contributed Rs. 5100.
The Rotract Princess Contest, preparations for which had been in progress for the past one month was the highlight of the evening. A slide show on the grooming workshop held by the board members of the club and also experts such as Rj Pankaj from 92.7 FM, Rachit from Femina Plus and Mandeep from Art of Living from August 5 to 11, 2008 was shown.. The MCM Band ‘Wipeout’ comprising Jyotika, Aditi and Anupreet sung popular English and hindi songs.
The audience were entertained by energetic dance performances . The judges- Ms. Amrita, Mrs. Neena Dhawan and Mrs. Madhu Marwaha judged Divya as the winner and Rotract Miss Beautiful Skin. The first runner-up and Miss Personality was Simran Brar while Nimrit bagged the titles of second runner-up and Miss Beautiful Walk. Many other prizes were also awarded. The tilte of Miss congeniality was captured by Tania, Toshiba was judged Miss talented, Akriti was Miss perfect Ten, Shivani was Miss Beautiful Hair and Mansi was Miss Beautiful Smile. The function ended with a few words from the Rotarians. The rotary theme of 2008 make dreams real.for the children opf the world came true with this function.
