Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh,Aug. 16 : Chandigarh and Chandigarh Wallahs, for the first time are going to have an opportunity to get a chance to learn and share their ideas & gather some expert tips in the all forms of art, from Carving a rock into an amazing image to filling colours in their thoughts on a plain canvas; from showing there skills on stage to proving there vocal chords, all at one place at the North Zone Cultural Center at Kalagram Chandigarh. In this type of concept, which is unique in its form, for the first time ever has been brought to City Beautiful by S. Devinder Singh Saroya, Director, North Zone Cultural Center (NZCC), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in which sculptors, painters, actors and singers who are very popular and masters in their respective fields, invited from all corners India, will set up workshops for the different form of art at this particular venue for one whole year, in which each artist will be given 15 days time to convert the given task into an amazing piece of art; whether to carve a rock into a statue or to create a colourful image on a canvas or to fill the air with melodious music or enthrall the audience with theatrical excellence. Armature artists & art lovers from the entire region are invited to come and look at the masters working and can also interact with the master sculptures and painters and get the expert tips from them.
Mr. Saroya, proudly explained the concept to us and said, ” this concept is unique in it own form & is being held for the first time in the history of Cultural Center to get such renowned Master Artists from different parts of India together on one platform to work, promote and show their skills in Sculpting, Painting, Singing & Acting. They will be free to use their own imagination to create the masterpieces. We will only provide them with the material like Rocks, Canvas etc. and rest is their craftsmanship to covert them into art pieces.” He also said that students and art lovers who want to learn some thing from Masters are most welcome to the venue to interact with them. Every Friday an open air theater will be organised and workshop on theater will be conducted by the masters and well qualified theater personalities. Workshop on singing will be held on every Monday in which the emphasis will be on Sufi and Folk Singing. Dying Art form like “Bazigars” will also be revived. The theme for the workshop will include Women empowerment; Social evil; Culture & Community etc.
Artist presently working at the workshop are Sh.Jagdish Lal Ahuja, Sculpture, who has served as a teacher at Arts College Chandigarh, and has been sculpting for past 40 years; Sh. Som Datt Sharma, Painter, from Jind town in Haryana, has been painting for last 46 years; Sh. Ram Partap Verma, Painter, from Bhiwani; Mohammad Iqbal, Sculpture, from Srinagar, Kashmir has been sculpting for past 15 years, can be seen working in kalagram. Sh. Jagdish Lal Ahuja said, “When we get a rock, we first make a miniature clay replica of it following the same contours and bends as in original rock, then imagine the different forms of images in it leading to the final image which we carve out of that rock”.
