Chandigarh , November 19, 2011: Shri Mohinder Singh ji Parmukh Sant Nirankari Mandal,Branch Chandigarh stated by the Sant Nirankari Mission organized a mass wedding function here today where 73 couples tied their nuptial knot in the benign presence of the Mission’s Head, His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj. Besides the families, relatives and friends of the brides and bridegrooms, a large number of devotees of the Mission also attended the ceremony.
While 7 families with 3 brides and 4 bridegrooms came from UK, USA, Canada and Australia, the largest participation from India was from Uttar Pradesh with 21 brides and 17 bridegrooms, followed by Delhi with 10 brides and 16 bridegrooms and Haryana with 11 brides and 12 bridegrooms. Fifteen families came from Punjab with 9 brides and 6 bridegrooms.
The other families came from Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, Orissa and Karnataka.
The simple ceremony began with the traditional Jaymala, followed by a common garland for each couple, a typical symbol of the Nirankari wedding. Then, saints recited four Nirankari Lawan with melodious music. Lawan were written by Shahenshah Baba Avtar Singh Ji who was the Head of the Mission from 1943 to 1962. Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, his holy mother Nirankari Rajmata Kulwant Kaur Ji and his gracious spouse Pujya Mata Sawinder Ji showered the petals of flowers on the couples. Even other saints in the congregation showered the flowers symbolizing their good wishes.
Blessing the couples, His Holiness said that we enjoyed the 3-day Samagam which had its own beauty and significance. Only three days thereafter, we are having this mass wedding function today which too has its own uniqueness. Its beauty lies in its simplicity and the spirit of harmony it bestows at the family and social levels. Like elsewhere, devotees are setting an example and showing the path to others in this field also.
Baba Ji said that no doubt the newly-weds have to understand each other, co-operate and live with the spirit of love, humility and tolerance. These virtues are, however, essential for other members of the family also. Elders must make every effort to strengthen this new relationship between the brides and bridegrooms.
His Holiness appreciated the families for opting for mass weddings. No doubt, here they are sitting away from the couples but they are guided by the spirit that they are a part of a very large family of Sadh Sangat. Baba Ji said that every relation based on spirituality is bound to strengthen. Otherwise, negative tendencies of the world may make an inroad and spoil the harmony. He, therefore, advised all the families, particularly the brides and bridegrooms to continue to seek the company of saints, do selfless service and remember God all the time.
