As a part of the continued initiatives to mark the WORLD LITERACY DAY on the September 8, 2008 the students of the DEPARTMENT of CHILD DEVELOPMENT, HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE SEC-10, Chandigarh organized an awareness generation program for the community at the Adult education centre, Azad Colony, Panchkula.
A Puppet show was staged to emphasize the importance of continuing education especially for the girl child. A discussion was initiated on women achievers and emphasis was laid on the education for the girls as well as taking care of their other needs. Today’s girls would be mothers tomorrow – a literate mother would automatically mean an educated family. The students recited a poem on the importance of education and encouraged the community women to join hands with them. The program concluded with a short talk motivating the audience to continue the education and inspire the others around them to join the literacy drive.
The response from the audience was overwhelming and a number of queries were received on the governmental support, specially for college and higher education.
We all pledge on the world LITERACY DAY to get rid of the darkness of illiteracy and ignorance. Let us all endeavor to usher in the sunshine of education and literacy and join hands and work together for this noble cause
