CHANDIGARH- October 17, 2008: The poetry lovers of the city will have real feast of poetry as leading poets of Hindi, Punjabi and English assemble at ICSSR Complex of Panjab University in the afternoon of 19 October, 2008. The poets of the stature of Surjit Patar, Manglesh Dabral, Asad Zaidi, Viren Dangwal, Nirupama Dutt and Madan Veera would read their poems on the occasion of a discussion on a book ‘Poetry, Politics and Culture: Essays on Indian Texts and Contexts’ written by Prof. Akshaya Kumar, Department of English, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The book undertakes a comparative study of modern Hindi, Punjabi and Indian English poetry and covers about 150 collection published in the post-90s. Besides a critical analysis of the mainstream poetry in the three languages, the book also covers contemporary dalit and woman poetry. Renowned Hindi critic Namvar Singh, Vice President Sahitya Akademi S.S.Noor and Prof GJV Prasad of JNU would participate in the discussion. The function is jointly organized by Haryana Sahitya Akademi, ICSSR and Routledge India, the publishers of the book.
