CHANDIGARH, November 24 : Kirandeep of Class IXth A, St Solider’s Internatonal School, Sector 28, won the first prize in the Category C (Class IX to XII )in the Poster Making Competition oganised by Jat Sabha today, on the eve of birthday of Deen Bandhu Sir Chhotu Ram, the leader of peasantry and down-trodden at Jat Bhawan, 2-B, Sector 27-A, here today.
In category B (Class VI to VIII) Chandani, a class Vth student of Government Model High School Sector 26, Chandigarh, claimed the first spot. The Category A (Class III to V) first prize went to Jaspinder Kaur, a Class IVth B student of Government Model High School (TML), Sector 26.
The prizes will be given on the eve of Basant Panchi and 128th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Deen Bandhu Sir Chhotu Ram on January 31 2009 at Jat Bhawan Chandigarh. The awards will be Rs. 400, Rs. 300, Rs. 200 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively, and two consolation prizes of Rs. 100 in each category.
Earlier, Dr. M.S. Malik, IPS (Rtd.) President, Jat Sabha Chandigarh presided over the function and declared the topic "Pollution Free Environment"
More than 557 students of different age groups/classes from various schools of Chandigarh, SAS Nagar, Panchkula, Pinjore, Kalka and adjoining `areas of Chandigarh participated in the Poster Making Competition.
Dr. Malik stated that this competition was held every year to inculcate the creative spirits for arts and paintings among the children and to polish their potential and skills in this field. The competition was divided into three categories i.e. in category A (class III to V), category –B (class VI to VIII), category-C (class IX to XII) according to the class/status of the students.
A panel of judges comprising Sh. Raja Ram Sheoran, (Rtd.) EIC, PWD (B&R) Haryana, Sh. Ram Pal Malik, (Rtd.) Addl. Director, Agriculture, Haryana, Mrs. Kuldip Kaur, Arts teacher of Moti Ram Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 27, Chandigarh and Mrs. Meena Puri Arts teacher, Bhawan Vidyalaya, Sector 27 Chandigarh under the chairmanship of Dr. M.S. Malik, scrutinized and selected the posters for awards.
