Chandigarh, December 12, 2008: Today, to show solidarity with our soldiers 40 Peace Club members of KB DAV Sr. Sec. Public School along with their Principal & Regional Director Mrs. Madhu Bahl, Board Member and Yuvsatta volunteers visited the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) at Mohali.
Giving information about the facilities at the centre Col. Jaswant Singh Spehia, Director of the Centre told the students that this place is devoted to make life more meaningful for soldiers who have lost or damaged their limbs while fighting the enemy of the country. And this Centre also imparts vocational training to the former soldiers suffering from disabilities to enable them to live a dignified and economically independent life.
Children saw the soldiers learning various kinds of skills and working with physiotherapists. A ‘Wheel Chair Basketball Match’ by soldiers was also arranged for the students, where children saw the combination of coordination, speed & endurance with which the soldiers were playing.
Interacting with the soldiers Mrs. Madhu Bahl stressed that they’ll plan more such interaction for their students at regular intervals, so that they not only learn about great sacrifices of Indian soldiers, but also a spirit of patriotism is imbibed in them.
Mr. Parmod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta & organizer of the trip informed that now, next week the ‘Wheel Chair Basketball Team of Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre’ Mohali, which had the distinction of representing India at international level, will be visiting KB DAV-7 for a demonstration match to show their skills and ‘JAJBA’ amongst the generation next.
