CHANDIGARH, DEC 6 :India’s leading amateur HS Kang led his home team, the Chandigarh Golf Club to victory in the finals of the seventh McDowell’s Signature Club Golf Championship held at the Bali Golf and Country Club. Chandigarh Golf Club totalled 108 points which was good enough to ensure a win for them, as the team from Pune which finished second, could only manage 105 points.
The top scores in each category and the fourth best card out of the total six members contributed to the final tally of the respective team. Previously, the McDowell’s Signature Club Golf Championship was won by the Noida Golf Club three times but the team from Noida failed to make it to the grand finals in Bali after being eliminated in the Northern regional finals held at the Classic Golf Resort.
Apart from Kang, the winning team comprised Navjot Mann, AS Bath, JS Kesar, PPS Sawhney and Col. SDS Bath. The members from the Pune team, which finished in second place, were Saurabh Bhaduri, Raj Dataa, Sanjay Naik, Rajeev Raut, Sukhprit Gurudutaa and Tejas Chillal.
The unheralded debutant team from Belgaum finished third, followed by the team representing the Beldih and Golmuri Golf club. T
he four teams that played in the finals, qualified after winning the regional finals in their respective zones. The grand finals held in Bali was the third and final stage of India’s largest and most exciting golf tournament – The McDowell’s Signature Club Golf Championship which saw some of the country’s most talented amateurs play which included the likes of Asian Games Gold medalist and Arjuna Awardee Amit Luthra, big names on the LG Amateur Tour – Jasjeet Singh (Noida Golf Course), HS Kang, Akarsh Choubey (Classic Golf Resort), Amit Kumar (Jaypee Greens Golf Resort) and Siddharth Sharma (Rambagh Golf Club) and Saurabh Bhaduri(Pune Golf Club) amongst others.
