Chandigarh, February 16: The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) along with Tetra Pak India Pvt Ltd, Yuvsatta and Sohanjana Eco-club of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46 D initiated the paper mache workshop titled ‘Kabbad Se Juggad’ under Project SEARCH today.
This umbrella project launched in July in Chandigarh and since then there has been a lot of interventions in the field of good waste management practices. Today’s workshop highlighted on the importance of reusing the discarded newspaper in an effective manner. The focus was also on creating artwork out of paper mache and also taking collection of dry waste seriously in their respective schools which was coordinated by Yuvsatta. There were total 120 students from various schools which are also the members of the year long project.
Explaining the initiative Om Prakash, the teacher incharge of Sohanjana Eco Club of GMSSS-46 D, shared that Project SEARCH began with around 40 schools in Mumbai and 30 schools in Chandigarh to create awareness amongst school students, teachers and the school community at large about waste and waste management. The project aim is to encourage students and teachers to practice the 4R’s – refuse, reuse, reduce and recycle in their daily lives and make consumption choices that will contribute towards building a sustainable planet in the years to come.
