Chandigarh, June 24: The Haryana Government has decided to observe June 26 as International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit Trafficking in order to raise public awareness against the menace of Drugs.
While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that June 26 was observed all over the world to raise public awareness against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The theme of the United Nations
Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) multi-year campaign 2007-09 is Do drugs control your life? Your life. Your Community. No place for drugs with special focus on drug cultivation and production in 2008.
He said that seminars would be organised to evolve new coordinated strategies to combat this menace. Similarly, exhibitions in different cities and towns would be organized to create awareness besides
orgainising public meetings in areas vulnerable to drug abuse and HIV.
He said that voluntary organizations and educational institutions would also be associated in the programmes for drug abuse control and de-addiction activities.
