CHANDIGARH, July 25 :Joginder Bisht of Delhi Audit will meet Amit Srivastav of Accountant General Uttar Pradesh in the men’s singles final of the North Zone IA and AD Table Tennis Tournament tomorrow.
In semi-finals played today at the Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall here, Joginder ousted his colleague Prasant Bhambri by 11-8, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6 and Amit Srivastav was given a tough fight before emerging winner against Jaswant Gangta of Accountant General Himachal Pradesh by 11-2, 11-4, 8-11, 12-10, 13-15, 11-7.
The title clash for the women’s singles final is billed between Gurvinder Kaur of Accountant General Punjab and Leena Khare of AG Uttar Pradesh. Gurivnder had an easy passage into the final as she defeated Prativa Srivastav of AG Uttar Pradesh by 11-5, 11-6, 11-5, 11-3 in the first semi-final encounter.
Sikha of AG Haryana put up a stiff resistance against Leena Khare of AG Uttar Pradesh in the second semi-final. Leena won the first two games after tough fight at 11-9, 11-8. Then Sikha displayed her class as the raced to an 11-4 verdict in the third game. The AG Haryana player also won the fifth game but that was not enough for Shikha to avert defeat. Leena won 11-9, 11-8, 4-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-3.
Playing his last departmental tournament, Patanjali Kumar of AG Haryana advanced to the veteran singles final at the expense of SK Srivastav of AG Uttar Pradesh 9-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9 in the veteran singles semi-final match. Patanjali’s opponent in the final will be Somnath Pramanik of AG Himachal Pradesh who got the better of a fighting Anil Sharma of AG Punjab by 9-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6.
The team championship final between AG Haryana and AG Uttar Pradesh will commence tomorrow at 10 a.m. followed by individual finals.
